Week 1 Reflection
What Have I Learned?
After looking back at week one of my learning about the different types of assessment, I can say that I have learned a lot! I knew what assessment was before this class, but now I am able to apply it to my future career. It is important for teachers to use assessments, because it allows them to look at the knowledge, skills, and work that children are developing during the school year. I think that knowing there are two different types of assessment is very important (formal & informal) as a future educator. By knowing this, it gives the teacher plenty of opportunities to use different types of assessments throughout the school year.
Here are some of the vocab words from this past week, that are important for my learning!
- Assessment --> Observing, recording, and documenting work that children produce and the process of how they do it
- Formative Assessment --> More relaxed form of assessment, feedback for student and teacher
"What are you learning?"
Ex: Quiz & student-teacher conferences
- Summative Assessment --> Covers a wide body of skills and knowledge, usually comes at the end of a unit or academic year/term
"What have you learned?"
Ex: Final Exams

I love how you mentioned in your future classroom that you want to make your students feel as comfortable as possible in your classroom by utilizing different types of testing. I think you did a great job describing what you learned about in week one.
