Week 4 Reflection

 Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's Taxonomy is a tool for teachers to use while writing objectives! In Bloom's Taxonomy, there are six different levels. Each level builds off the previous to gather a student's understanding of specific objectives. At the bottom, the skills are simple and then at the top, the skills are more complex.

Level 1: Remember --> students recall key information
Level 2: Understand --> demonstrating an understanding of the facts that students remember
Level 3: Apply --> how students take their knowledge and understanding and apply it to different situations
Level 4: Analyze --> students are able to draw connections between ideas, think critically, and break down information
Level 5: Evaluate --> critiquing and assessing information
Level 6: Create --> students are able to demonstrate what they have learned by creating something new, either tangible or conceptual

Webb's Depth of Knowledge

Webb's Depth of Knowledge is a tool used by teachers in order to assess the rigor of students' work. In other words, DOK addresses how students are engaging in their work. There are four levels within DOK and they are...

Level 1: Recall --> keywords: identify and recall
Level 2: Skills & Concepts --> keywords: classify, organize, and collect
Level 3: Strategic Thinking --> keywords: justify and explain
Level 4: Extended Thinking --> keywords: relate and make connections

Future Instruction

I hope to utilize both Bloom's Taxonomy and Webb's Depth of Knowledge in my future classroom! I have already started to use Bloom's Taxonomy while writing lesson objectives for my classes. I am glad that I am getting the hang of things now, so when I am in my own classroom I am comfortable. Both of these tools are going to be very helpful in my classroom!
