Week 5

 Importance of Learning Objectives

A learning objective is a statement that describes what students will be able to do at the end of the lesson as a result of instruction. They are student-centered, actionable, and measurable. Learning objectives are important because they help teachers and students be learning at the end of instruction. Learning objectives are also important in helping teachers develop effective instruction and assessments.

ABCD Formula

While writing learning objectives, teachers should follow the ABCD Formula. This helps identify what students will be able to do as a result of their learning.
Audience --> Who
Behavior --> What should the learners be able to do
Conditions --> What circumstance will the behavior take place
Degree --> To what degree or level of proficiency is required

I think that this formula is a great resource for teacher to use while writing their learning objectives. If teachers are having a hard time writing these, the ABCD Formula is a good starting point to use to help develop learning objectives.

Miss Lauren's Talk Reflection

On Monday, we had the opportunity to talk to Miss Lauren Wagner, a Ph.D. student from Florida State University. She has 13 years experience as an elementary school teacher, and had many tips to share with the class! I thought it was very helpful that she showed many different assessment ideas based on the subject (science, ELA, social studies, & math). After seeing those, I was able to see different types of assessments I could use one day in my own classroom. I also thought that it was very helpful when she answered questions about being a teacher and gave us different tips to help us succeed! Overall, I truly value the Zoom call that we had with Miss Lauren Wagner!
