Week 6

Aligning Lesson Plans, Standards, Objectives, & Instructional Activities

While designing lessons, it is very important to make sure that they are aligned with the standards, objectives, and instructional activities. When all of these things align it makes everything fall into place and children are able to truly understand the content being taught. It is very important that as a teacher, you are making sure that your assessments are developmentally appropriate AND aligned with lesson plans, standards, objectives, and instructional activities. If one of these items are misaligned, children may get confused and have a hard time grasping the concept. As a future teacher, I am going to try my hardest to make sure that my assessments are aligned with what I will be teaching. I know from first hand experience, when I take a test, I want it to be on the material that I am learning and/or learned about!

When making lesson plans, there are three steps every teacher should take...

1. Start with the standard
--> Standards are what are being taught

2. Create an objective
--> Objective must come from the standard and adapt it to fit the needs of your students

3. Create the assessment
--> Use your objective as the assessment.
